Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on TypeLords (typelords.com) — what they are, why we use them, and how long they last. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. It can be read back by the same site on later visits. Cookies let websites remember things like whether you're signed in, or measure whether an ad campaign worked.
We classify the cookies we use into two categories: essential (required for the site to function) and consent-based (used only with your permission, where applicable).
2. Cookies we set
Essential cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for the service to work. Without them, you cannot stay signed in or use the admin dashboard. No consent is required for essential cookies under DPDP, GDPR, or CCPA.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
tl_session | Keeps you signed in to your TypeLords account. Stores a hashed session token. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. | 30 days, sliding | First-party |
tl_admin_session | Keeps an admin signed in to the admin dashboard. Set only after admin login + email-OTP 2FA. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. | 7 days | First-party, admin-only |
tl_ref | Referral attribution. Set when you click someone's TypeLords referral link, so we can credit them (and you) the bonus if you sign up. See our Referral Program Terms. | 60 days | First-party |
Consent-based cookies (third-party)
We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure whether any advertising we run translates into signups or purchases. This loads the Google Tag (gtag.js) and may set cookies controlled by Google.
For users located in the EU/EEA/UK, this tag is not active without consent. For users outside those regions, the tag may load by default. If you are in a jurisdiction that requires opt-in consent and you have not been presented with a consent prompt, write to ping@typelords.com — this helps us catch geo-detection gaps.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au | Conversion linker — attributes signups and purchases to the ad click that brought you to the site. | Up to 90 days | |
_gcl_aw | Conversion tracking — records which ad click led to a measurable event. | Up to 90 days | |
_gcl_dc | Conversion tracking across DoubleClick — used by Google when its display network is involved. | Up to 90 days |
These cookies are set under the googletagmanager.com and google.com domains and are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Google may set additional cookies for its own purposes; the list above covers the ones triggered by our conversion tag specifically.
3. What we do NOT use
For transparency, here's what we do not load:
- No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Plausible, no PostHog).
- No advertising-network cookies beyond the Google Ads conversion tag.
- No social media tracking pixels (no Facebook Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no TikTok Pixel).
- No cross-site behavioural tracking or fingerprinting cookies.
4. Local storage and similar technologies
We also use small amounts of local storage in your browser for non-tracking purposes:
- Your typing-sound preferences (mute state and selected sound profile) so they persist across sessions.
- UI preferences such as light/dark theme choice.
Local storage stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us or anyone else.
5. Service-provider cookies set on their own domains
When you interact with our payment processors (PayU, PayPal) or sign in with Google, those companies may set cookies on their own domains for fraud prevention, session, and compliance purposes. We do not control these cookies. Their use is governed by:
6. Managing cookies
You can block, delete, or limit cookies through your browser settings. Blocking the tl_session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in; you can still browse the site, but anything that requires an account (saving results, earning TL Coins, viewing your console) will not work.
To clear cookies in common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox:Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
To opt out of Google Ads personalisation specifically, visit Google Ad Settings.
7. Changes to this policy
We update this policy if the cookies we use change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
