Getting started

What is TypeLords?

TypeLords is a platform built around the whole arc of typing — learning it from scratch, practising deliberately, certifying a speed, and competing globally. There are ten activities, and every one of them is free.

  • TypePractice — targeted practice across seven content modes and 24 languages.
  • TypeTest — graded certification across seven levels.
  • TypeAcademy — a structured course from the home row upward.
  • TypeCareers — occupation-specific tracks for real jobs.
  • TypeWars, TypeLegends and TypeH2H — hourly, daily and one-on-one contests.
  • TypeGames, TypeArt and TypeFreedom — the arcade and the unmeasured play modes.
Is TypeLords free?

Yes — completely, and with nothing gated. Every activity, every level, every certificate and every language is free for everyone. There is no trial period, no daily cap, no locked tier and no card required.

  • Nothing unlocks with payment — TypeLords Pro accelerates, it doesn't gate.
  • Certificates are free at every level and carry a public verification link.
  • You can practise, test and play games without an account at all.
Who is TypeLords for?

Anyone whose hands are on a keyboard — and especially people who need typing for something specific: a government exam, a job application, a career where typing is the work, or a competitive edge.

Do I need an account?

Not to try things. Practice, tests and games all run without signing in. An account exists so results, rank, coins and certificates persist between sessions, and because certificates carry your name on a public link.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which treats anyone under 18 as a child for data processing purposes.

What browsers and devices does it work on?

Modern Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop, and Safari or Chrome on mobile. The typing surfaces work on tablets. The typing games are the exception — they need a physical keyboard, so they're desktop and laptop only.

The activities

What is TypePractice?

TypePractice is the open arena for deliberate practice. Seven content modes — prompts, quotes, science, maths, general knowledge, interview and numbers — durations from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, punctuation on or off, and 24 Indian and world languages. Every run reports speed, accuracy and consistency.

What is TypeTest?

TypeTest is the certification arm — 7 levels from Beginner to Elite, each certifying a speed band, in Freeflow or Punctuation mode. Every level is free.

  • Level durations match the level number: Level 1 runs a minute, Level 7 runs 7.
  • Bands run from 20–30 WPM up to 150+ WPM.
  • Passing requires hitting your band's floor at 90% accuracy or better.
  • A result is only produced on full-duration completion — leaving early gives no score.
How is a TypeTest certificate graded?

Passing attempts are graded B, A, A+ or A++ depending on where your speed lands inside or above the band you chose. The lower half of the band earns a B, the upper half an A, and clearing the ceiling earns A+ or A++. There is no failing grade, because a failed attempt produces no certificate at all.

What is TypeAcademy?

TypeAcademy is the learn-to-type course: 17 grades, 10 activities each, starting at 10 WPM and ending at 140. Each activity runs Drill, Challenge and Verify, and each grade ends in a Finals you have to clear.

  • The Grade Finals requires the grade's full WPM target at 95% accuracy.
  • Clearing a grade issues a certificate — one for each of the 17 grades.
  • Grade 15 also issues Typing Graduate; Grade 17 also issues Typing Master.
  • Grades unlock in sequence, so there's no skipping ahead.
What is TypeCareers?

TypeCareers maps typing to specific occupations — 17 tracks including data entry, customer support, medical and legal transcription, journalism and coding. Each track runs 10 sessions and holds you to a speed and accuracy standard drawn from that role.

  • Standards sit slightly below real industry minimums — this is a learning credential, not a job-day test.
  • Completing a track earns its career certification on a verifiable link.
  • If you need a speed certified for an application, TypeTest is the graded one.
How does TypeWars work?

TypeWars is the hourly global contest. Everyone entering a given GMT hour types the same passage, a ticket costs 100 TL Coins and covers up to 3 attempts of 60 seconds, and only your best score counts. Ranks settle when the hour ends.

  • 1st: 5,000 TL Coins and a certificate.
  • 2nd and 3rd: 2,000 and 1,000 TL Coins.
  • Ranks 4–10: ticket refunded, so the hour costs nothing.
  • Outside the top ten the ticket is spent, which is what funds the pot.
How does TypeLegends work?

TypeLegends is the daily version — one shared passage for a full GMT day, a 1,000-coin ticket, and the largest prizes on the platform. Results settle at midnight GMT and then freeze permanently.

  • 1st: 50,000 TL Coins, a net gain of 49,000 after the ticket.
  • 2nd and 3rd: 20,000 and 10,000 TL Coins.
  • Ranks 4–10: ticket refunded.
  • Everyone in the top 10 earns a certificate.
What is TypeH2H?

TypeH2H is one-on-one duelling: two typists, the same passage, 60 seconds, one winner. Both stake 100 TL Coins and the faster typist takes all 200. Speed decides it, with accuracy as the tiebreak.

What typing games are there?

3 games, all free and all desktop-only since they need a physical keyboard: TypeDefend, TypeBattle, TypeHarvest. Each applies a different pressure, and levels pay TL Coins as you clear them.

  • TypeDefend — Save Your City. Missiles drop from the sky carrying words. Type to neutralize. 14 levels of escalating intensity. Save the city, earn 500 TL Coins per level cleared.
  • TypeBattle — Destroy The Enemies. 5 tanks and 5 soldiers on the battlefield. Type their words before any of them fires. 14 levels of escalating word length. 500 TL Coins per level cleared.
  • TypeHarvest — Harvest The Field. A field of 26 crops, each carrying a word. Type to harvest them all before the minute runs out. 10 levels of growing word length. Farm TL Coins — the whole field pays out.
What are TypeArt and TypeFreedom?

The two unmeasured modes. TypeArt fills a shape with your letters and lets you download the result; TypeFreedom is a blank canvas where you write whatever you want. Neither is scored — TypeFreedom reports words and speed but no accuracy, because there's no reference text to compare against.

Journey & TL Coins

What is the TypeLords Journey?

The Journey is a 7-rank progression running alongside every activity: Noob → TypeLord → TypeLords Master → TypeLords Titan → TypeLords GrandMaster → TypeLords Legend → TypeLords Immortal. Each rank holds 100 levels, 700 in total, and all of it is free.

  • Every completed activity advances your Journey by one level.
  • There's no skill gate — the Journey rewards consistency, not speed.
  • Nothing in the Journey is locked behind a payment.
What are TL Coins?

TL Coins are the in-game currency. You earn them by typing anywhere on TypeLords, and they're what you spend to enter contests and duels. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be bought with money.

Can I buy TL Coins?

No. There is no purchase path for coins anywhere on the platform — the only way to get them is by typing. That's deliberate: it means nobody can buy a better position on a contest board.

What can I spend TL Coins on?

Contest entry and duel stakes. A TypeWars ticket costs 100, a TypeLegends ticket 1,000, and a TypeH2H duel stakes 100 with 200 to the winner.

Can I lose TL Coins?

Only by staking them in a contest or duel and not placing, or if they were earned through cheating or fraudulent referrals and get reversed. Otherwise, once credited honestly they stay credited.

TypeLords Pro

What does TypeLords Pro unlock?

Nothing — and that's the point. Pro earns coins at 2×, removes ads for the duration of your plan, and adds a Pro badge. It doesn't unlock any level, certificate, contest or feature, because those are already free for everyone.

How much does Pro cost?

₹149 a month or ₹894 a year in India, and $2 a month or $12 a year elsewhere. The annual plan works out considerably cheaper per day.

Does Pro auto-renew?

No. Pro runs for the days you paid for and then stops — no recurring charge, no stored card, nothing to cancel. You renew from your console when you choose to. Renewing early extends your plan rather than replacing it, so remaining days are never lost.

Why does TypeLords need Pro if everything is free?

Because running the platform costs money, and the alternative is charging for the thing itself. Ads and Pro subscriptions fund the free tier, so learning to type stays free for the students and job applicants who need it most.

Certificates

How do I earn a certificate?

Several activities issue them, all free.

  • TypeTest — pass any of the 7 levels for a graded certificate.
  • TypeAcademy — one per grade across all 17, plus Graduate at 15 and Master at 17.
  • TypeCareers — complete all 10 sessions of a track.
  • TypeWars — the hour's winner.
  • TypeLegends — the daily top 10.
Can I share my certificate?

Yes. Every certificate has a public URL that anyone can open to verify it — showing your score, accuracy and the date earned. That's the point of it: a screenshot proves nothing, a verifiable link does.

Are certificates permanent?

Yes, unless your account is closed or the underlying run is invalidated for cheating.

For institutes and companies

Can institutes and companies run typing tests on TypeLords?

Yes, and it's free. Typing institutes, schools and companies can run tests under their own name, issue co-branded certificates, build custom assessments with their own targets and passages, track every result, and embed a typing test on their own website.

Can we use it for hiring?

Yes. Share your test link with candidates and every completed attempt appears in your dashboard with speed, accuracy and consistency. You can use the standard TypeLords test or set the speed and accuracy a role actually requires.

Fair play & anti-cheat

What counts as cheating?

Bots, scripts, macros, voice-to-text dictation, pasting passage text, autocomplete suggestions, browser extensions that predict or complete your input, multiple accounts, account sharing and coordinated play. Anything producing a result you didn't actually type.

Why doesn't voice-to-text work?

It's blocked deliberately across all activities. Voice dictation produces multi-character insertions that bypass keystroke-level capture, which would make leaderboards meaningless. Tap-by-tap typing and swipe-type both work normally.

What happens if my run is flagged?

A human reviews it. A false positive stays; confirmed cheating means the run is invalidated, rewards reversed, any certificate revoked, and depending on history the account may be suspended.

Can I appeal?

Yes. Email ping@typelords.com from your account address with the activity, date and a brief description. We look at the telemetry and respond within 2 business days.

Account & privacy

How do I sign in?

Sign in with Google, or with email — we send a six-digit one-time code. There are no passwords.

How do I delete my account?

Email ping@typelords.com from your registered address with the subject line 'Delete my account'. We'll confirm and permanently remove your profile, runs, journey progress, coins and certificates. Payment records are retained as required by Indian tax law.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Email us and we'll send your complete activity history, journey state, coin ledger and certificates in JSON format.

Can I make my profile private?

Yes, from your console. Your public profile page won't be viewable by other users, though leaderboard entries still show your name.

Technical

My run didn't get recorded — what happened?

Usually one of four things: you exited before the timer reached zero and only full-duration runs are recorded; you typed fewer than the minimum correct characters; you weren't signed in; or the submit hit a network glitch. Try again, and email us if it persists.

Can I switch to dark mode?

Yes — there's a Dark Mode toggle at the bottom-left of most activity pages. Light is the default; dark is there for late-night typing.

Why can't I play the typing games on my phone?

They need a physical keyboard — falling missiles and ten simultaneous countdowns aren't playable on a touchscreen. Everything else on TypeLords works fine on mobile.

Still have a question?

We're a small team and we read every email.
